Odysseus’s Journey
Cyclops

  • Island of Cyclopes- Odysseus and his crew stop at the Island of Cyclopes out of desperation for food and water.
  • They sneak into a Cyclops’ cave because they smell the cheese and wine the Cyclops purposely put in the cave for him and his sheep.
  • After Odysseus and his crew go into the cave, the Cyclops rolls a giant rock across the opening because it acts as a door for the Cyclops.
  • The Cyclops eats one of the men but saves the others for a later time.
  • Odysseus and his men make a giant spear to blind the Cyclops.
  • The Cyclops screams in pain from the spear but thinks Odysseus’s name is nobody so the Cyclops screams to his brothers nobody hurt him.
  • When the Cyclops is blind he lets his sheep out but can only tell their sheep by their fur.
  • Odysseus and the crew hook themselves under the sheep and get out free of harm.
  • Odysseus, with too much confidence, shouts his name to the Cyclops not knowing the Cyclopes father was Poseidon, who’s the god of the seas.
  • Poseidon then curses Odysseus making the ride home much longer and much more dangerous.





Sirens
  • The Sirens are beautiful singing monsters that sing of the past, good and bad.
  • When people hear the sirens they go crazy and want to stay with the sirens, so they jump into the water and are never seen again.
  • Odysseus and the crew know of this legend and make a plan to put wax in their ears.
  • Odysseus being very smart and wanting to be the only person to actually hear the sirens and live.
  • Odysseus ties himself to the front supporting pole of his ship, and listens to everything the sirens sing about but can’t leave the pole.
  • Odysseus is then reminded of the Trojan War and his wife and wants to get home as fast as possible to his wife, family and friends but is having a very difficult time because of Poseidon.
