Island of Cyclopes- Odysseus and his crew stop at the Island of Cyclopes out of desperation for food and water.
They sneak into a Cyclops’ cave because they smell the cheese and wine the Cyclops purposely put in the cave for him and his sheep.
After Odysseus and his crew go into the cave, the Cyclops rolls a giant rock across the opening because it acts as a door for the Cyclops.
The Cyclops eats one of the men but saves the others for a later time.
Odysseus and his men make a giant spear to blind the Cyclops.
The Cyclops screams in pain from the spear but thinks Odysseus’s name is nobody so the Cyclops screams to his brothers nobody hurt him.
When the Cyclops is blind he lets his sheep out but can only tell their sheep by their fur.
Odysseus and the crew hook themselves under the sheep and get out free of harm.
Odysseus, with too much confidence, shouts his name to the Cyclops not knowing the Cyclopes father was Poseidon, who’s the god of the seas.
Poseidon then curses Odysseus making the ride home much longer and much more dangerous.
Sirens
The Sirens are beautiful singing monsters that sing of the past, good and bad.
When people hear the sirens they go crazy and want to stay with the sirens, so they jump into the water and are never seen again.
Odysseus and the crew know of this legend and make a plan to put wax in their ears.
Odysseus being very smart and wanting to be the only person to actually hear the sirens and live.
Odysseus ties himself to the front supporting pole of his ship, and listens to everything the sirens sing about but can’t leave the pole.
Odysseus is then reminded of the Trojan War and his wife and wants to get home as fast as possible to his wife, family and friends but is having a very difficult time because of Poseidon.
