Midas and the Golden Touch
King Midas was very rich and loved gold.
He was known for his wisdom, but also known for greed.
Dionysus told King Midas he would be granted one wish because he rescued a satyr named Silenus.
King Midas thought about how he wanted everything he touched to turn gold.
Dionysus gave King Midas the ability to touch things and turn them gold.
Midas thought this was going to be a great thing, but later on he realized that it wasn’t such a good wish after all.
He couldn’t eat because everything he picked up turned into gold. Also, when he tried to smell the roses they instantly turned gold and had no scent.
Dionysus told Midas to go to River Pactolus and wash his hands. According to the myth, gold settled into the sand and flowed into a different country.
After he did that, Midas was relieved and became a better person who appreciated life.
