Midas and the Golden Touch
  • King Midas was very rich and loved gold.
  • He was known for his wisdom, but also known for greed.
  • Dionysus told King Midas he would be granted one wish because he rescued a satyr named Silenus.
  • King Midas thought about how he wanted everything he touched to turn gold.
  • Dionysus gave King Midas the ability to touch things and turn them gold.
  • Midas thought this was going to be a great thing, but later on he realized that it wasn’t such a good wish after all.
  • He couldn’t eat because everything he picked up turned into gold. Also, when he tried to smell the roses they instantly turned gold and had no scent.
  • Dionysus told Midas to go to River Pactolus and wash his hands. According to the myth, gold settled into the sand and flowed into a different country.
  • After he did that, Midas was relieved and became a better person who appreciated life.
